Vision
1. The Faculty of Exact Sciences upholds the vision of the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e to become a Center of Excellence for Higher Education in Timor-Leste.
2. The Faculty of Exact Sciences further aspires to be a leading academic unit, recognized for the quality of its teaching, the excellence of its research, and above all, for the contribution of its graduates as a foundation for sustainable national development.
Mission
The Faculty of Exact Sciences pursues the following mission:
a. Disseminate knowledge and understanding of the most important principles and theories of exact sciences, of the main physical phenomena described by these fields, and their experimental evidence, as well as their main practical applications and their limits.
b. Train advanced professionals with a multidisciplinary and comprehensive view of science and technology issues, and with a very solid background in exact sciences, crucial for sustainable national development.
c. Develop and consolidate skills in interpreting relevant scientific information, understanding and designing models explaining the real world, and producing judgments based on reflection on scientific and ethical aspects.
d. Conduct scientific and technological research in the areas of exact sciences, with results capable of meeting the socioeconomic needs of the community.
e. To cultivate the human person with respect for God, the Nation, the Family, others, and the Environment.
History
The Faculty of Exact Sciences (FCE) was established in 2015 as a result of bilateral cooperation between the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal, and the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL), Timor-Leste. It initially operated under a provisional and accreditation framework, offering a Bachelor’s Degree in Exact Sciences with specializations in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.
During its first four years, the FCE shaped and defined its identity as a distinctive academic unit, maintaining a prestigious connection with society, access to international networks in education and research, and strong potential for national recognition. In the absence of national platforms dedicated exclusively to the dissemination of the exact sciences, these fields remain relatively underdeveloped.
